I'm close to buying a new TC40D(new=6.5 hours put on by the dealer working on his driveway). Here are the features and the quoted price: Super Steer, 17LA FEL, ind. tires, 72" Bush Hog, Price=$23,600. An added $300 for adding remotes. Is this a fair price? I've looked at some of the other posts and it doesn't look bad. Also, there is the option of financing at 0% for 1 year, 1.49% for two, 1.99% for three, and 2.99% for four.
As for the rotary cutter, is a 6' cutter the right size for this machine or will it handle a 7 footer (enough HP)? Is there any noticeable difference in performance betwwen the TC40D and the TC45D?
Is the standard bucket sufficient for moving dirt and other light to medium loader jobs or should I be looking at a HD bucket--I won't be trying to dig with it. Finally, who mfrs the engine?
I really like this tractor and have appreciated having this discussion board's help. BTW, I'd be going from green to and blue and will have to paint my kids' toys if they want to be "just like daddy". Thanks.

Just thought I would pass this along. A John Deere dealer in Southeastern Minnesota has a 2001 TC40D with Supersteer, loader and the 84" midmount mower with about 80 hours. The tractor looks perfect and I think he is asking $21,500 for the package. If anyone is interested in the dealers name and phone number I can provide it. ....

I bought that same machine new 1 1/2 years ago for $22,200. Only difs. are I didn't get a mower, but I did get a HD bucket. I think that you should be able to get him down further. I run a 6' bushhog with no problem. I didn't go for the TC45D because there was no mid PTO option, and I might want that at a later date. Whether you buy this one or not, I believe you are looking at the right machine. A neighbor of mine that just bought a new JD about the size of mine. Last week he took a good look at mine and said that he wished he knew that super steer existed prior to making his purchase. ....

Tom (and anybody else), I just test drove a tc40D and the salesman tried to demonstrate the QA loader. He was having a heck of a time getting the pins off and then had a lot of difficulty getting the arms to come off the frame of the tractor. He admitted that he had never done it before and gave up. However, from what I saw the process is not nearly as easy the QA loader on my JD. Realistically, how hard is it for one man to do it on the tc40D and how long does it take.
Also, a feature that I really didn't like was the kill switch that shut off the engine whenever I got up off the seat. Even with the parking brake on and the gear shift in "N" the engine won't run without seat pressure?? The salesman indicated that I would probably want to disable the switch. ....

I've taken my loader off twice just to do it. The second time took about 4 minutes. The mechanic at the dealer demonstated how to do it in about 2 minutes. As for it shutting off with the parking brake on and the hydro in neutral, something is not in adjustment on that machine. I'd say to go back and have one of their mechanics give you the demonstration. I spend most of my time on the tractor in the woods. With the Super steer, I don't feel that it's worth the few minutes to take off the loader. ....
